Savor your espresso in one of Italy's most iconic vessels. This hand-painted cup and saucer set features the Raffaellesco pattern, the hallmark decoration of Deruta majolica and one of the most celebrated motifs in Italian ceramic history.
The Raffaellesco Pattern
The design takes its name from Raphael, the Renaissance master from Urbino. His studio's frescoes — sinuous dragons, scrolling acanthus leaves, flowing arabesques — inspired Deruta potters in the 16th century, who translated those motifs onto majolica. Today, after five centuries, the pattern is still painted by hand using the same gestures and colors: cobalt blue, warm ochre, and terracotta orange on a pure white glaze.
Artisan Craftsmanship
Each cup is individually shaped, coated with a lead-free enamel glaze, and decorated entirely by hand with a fine brush before a second kiln firing. Slight variations in the brushstroke are the natural signature of a handmade object — no two pieces are exactly alike. MOD Deruta Heritage has been producing majolica in Deruta since 1965, keeping this craft alive across three generations.
